Notes

Hans Jegli was a designer and painter of glass panels who was born in Winterthur but studied in Schaffhausen (under Hans Friedrich Kolmann) and Bern. He himself owned drawings by Daniel Lindtmayer, from whose work the depth of shadows and clear hatching typical of Jegli's style are clearly derived, though these characteristic are taken rather further by Jegli. Circular designs such as this with detailed strapwork borders feature prominently in Jegli's earlier work, although not from his earliest period of apprenticeship in Schaffhausen.
