Hamish Constable Paterson (Scottish 1890-1955) Self portrait smoking a pipe; Self portrait at night Two, one oil on canvas and one black and white chalk on buff paper 35 x 25cm; 13¾ x 9¾in and 22.5 x 14cm; 9 x 5½in With a photograph of the artist in uniform, inscribed with details of his life verso, unframed (3) Hamish Paterson was the 2nd son of the Scottish painter James Paterson (1854-1932), of the Glasgow Boys group. He was an extremely talented artist but became an officer in the Black Watch in the First World War and was crippled in both hands at Gallipoli which left him unable to paint. 1.
