FIRST EDITION OF THIS CELEBRATED SERIES OF JAMAICAN VIEWS, with one plate watermarked 1832, originally issued in 7 parts, 1824-25. Having published his Picturesque Tour of Italy in 1820, Hakewill visited Jamaica in 1820-21, making the thriving colony the subject of this "charming colour plate book." Although best known for his views, Hakewill was also a trained architect who became a competitor for the erection of the new houses of parliament in 1836.
