H. Alvin Sharpe (American/New Orleans, 1910-1982) a collection of silver and bronze medals comprised of a silver octagonal medallion encased in Lucite, nine studio proofs, and two pattern proofs, including: "Studio Cob Original from Pattern Dies", "Voodoo Queen", "Saturn" and others, all stamped and inscribed by the artist, ranging in size from 2 5/8 in. x 2 5/8 in. to 2 1/8 in. x 2 1/8 in., (12 pcs.) Note: H. Alvin Sharpe first came up with the idea of Mardi Gras doubloons as parade throws. In December of 1959, he approached Rex Captain, Darwin Fenner, with his idea which led to the birth of a new Mardi Gras tradition. Sharpe's interest in the intaglio process of etching into metal, which led to creation of this wonderful collection of handcrafted metal pieces, often incorporated historical Louisiana themes.
