Guy Lispcombe was born in or around London, England 1881. He was a painter of genre, landscape and motoring scenes. He was one of the earliest artist specialising in automotive subject matter. In 1903, he took charge of the art department of the popular British magazine, "The Motor". Ultimately, he became a world famous illustrator and his works now hang in every important Automobile Museum in the world.
Lipscombe's genre pictures were quite different from his motoring subjects. Here, he often employed free and expressive brushwork and used a rather rich colour palette on his canvases.
Lipsombe also painted some haunting images from the First World War, he is generally well regarded artist, his automotive pictures are highly sought after.
