Item Overview

Description

Signed and dated Opus Ambrosi 1916 Bronze, rich brown modulated patination, on white veined marble column, with black veined marble foot Group 60 cm (23 3/4 in): Column 109 cm (43 in) (2) Eternal Spring dates from the formative period in Ambrosi's career, before his stay in Paris (1927-32). Already, his response to the two great influences on his work, Michelangelo and Rodin, is apparent. The anatomy is strong and assured; the composition is intricate; and the theme is intense and sensual. In the Gustinus Ambrosi-Museum, Vienna, there is a marble version of Eternal Spring, dated 1916. Literature: Felix Braun (foreword), Ambrosi Mappe, Vienna & Leipzig, 1919, the plaster illus. pl. 54 (See colour plate on page 22).
