CATALOGUE NOTE

Chéret exhibited occasionally at the Salon from 1863 up until 1891 when he began to show his works instead in the art objects section of the Société Nationales des Beaux Arts. He trained under Albert-Ernest Carrier-Belleuse, whose daughter he married. After Carrier-Belleuse's death Chéret took over as director of works at the Sèvres porcelain factory. After Chéret's death his works were exhibited at the École des Beaux Arts and then dispersed at a sale at the Hôtel Drouot in december 1894.
