Item Overview

Description

Portrait of a Lady from the Pompadour period, oil on canvas, 66 x 55.5 cm, framed, (Wo)

Certificate: Ludwig Meyer, Archiv für Kunstgeschichte, 22 March 2004, as autograph Guillaume Voiriot.
The young lady, whose hairdress, make-up and garment follows the example of Madame Pompadour, is likely to have been portrayed around 1756/60. According to Ludwig Meyer, the brightly flushed cheeks are a typical sign of the artist's style, as is his preference for minutely rendered lace scarfs. His figures always appear to be strangely rigid. Voiriot seems to never have signed his works.
