2° (527 x 326mm). Hand-coloured engraved illustrated title by P. Schenk after G. van Houten, 8 pages of text in French, including index of 40 charts, 40 double-page engraved charts on thick paper, one double-page folding chart on ordinary paper, all hand-coloured in outline by a contemporary hand, mounted on guards throughout. (Light browning throughout, marginal stain affecting illustrated title, text leaves and first map, heaviest to text leaves, repairs to a few corners, most noticeably to the illustrated title, folding plate lightly creased, map 34 trimmed close at lower edge just into image, tiny marginal worming affecting maps 1-21 and last two maps.) Original publisher's vellum, modern green silk ties (recased with new free endpapers, staining to cover). Provenance: Dotor Guilhelme Rubim de Lyma (early ink ownership inscription to title).

CONTEMPORARY HAND-COLOURED COPY OF THE ZEEATLAS, INCLUDING THE WORLD MAP AND THE 11 CHARTS OF THE AMERICAS. These include California as an island ('Paskaerte van Nova Granada en t'Eylandt California'; map 40), and the Hudson River ('Paskaert van de Zuydt en Noordt Revier'; map 34). This latter is omitted from later issues with 40 maps only. The text includes a short history of the origin and growth of navigation. Koeman IV Goos 2B, a reissue of the 1666 edition; cf.
