Notes

PROVENANCE:
A noble villa in Lombardy, from which acquired at the end of the 19th century by an old Milanese family and thence by descent to the present owner

This and the following lot are among the few known signed works by this artist about whom relatively little is known. He was mentioned by Malvezzi in his Glorie dell'Arte Lombarda (Milan, 1822) where he refers to the lushness of his compositions and certain stylistic affinities with the works of Margherita Caffi. Vincenzino had numerous pupils, including his daughter, Domenica, who was also a flower painter. The other signed works by the artist that are beginning to allow for a reconstruction of his oeuvre are two paintings in the Dubini Collection in Milan, which were exhibited in the Naples show of 1964, La Natura Morta Italiana, two in the Kunsthistorisches Museum in Vienna, and others in the Pigni Collection of Milan and the del Bosco Collection of Poirino.
