Item Overview

Description

The Madonna and Child enthroned with angels tempera on gold ground panel, shaped top 241/2 x 15 in. (62.2 x 38.1 cm.) PROVENANCE with Victor Sparks, New York. NOTES We are grateful to Mr. Everett Fahy for suggesting the attribution to Cozzarelli based on physical inspection (private communication, 18 July 2002) and for noting that the angel's faces and all figure types are characteristic of Cozzarelli's work of the 1470s when he shared a workshop with Matteo di Giovanni. The angels are reminiscent of those in Cozzarelli's early altarpiece in the Church of San Michele, Paganico, near Grosetto.
