Bridges' Mediterranean tour was partly arranged to follow the ships of his son, William, serving in the Royal Navy. It was from Malta that Bridges set out in 1846, and in Malta that Calvert Richard Jones (at the recommendation of Fox Talbot) instructed Bridges in the calotype process, so any of his views of Malta could be among the earliest images he made.
