Description

DESCRIPTION: A very fine circa 1810-20 Federal tall case clock in cherry by George Oves (1783-1837)of Lebanon County (and so signed on the dial). The case consisting of high Chippendale ogee feet supporting a base and delicate waist with fine string inlays. The bonnet with simple inverted cup finials and magnificent rosettes set within a well proportioned swans neck arch. The painted Pennsylvania dial signed "George Oves -- Lebanon" The 8 day day movement behind in fine condition. Overall, perhaps the finest proportioned Oves clock known and reflecting the maturity of both his skill and the anonymous cabinetmaker who created the case. MEASUREMENTS: 19-1/2" x 10-1/2" x 103" high. CONDITION: RUNNING? Wear consistent with age - CHECK!
