George Herbert Macrum New York (1878 -1970) THE TRAMP, VENICE oil on canvasboard, framed, signed: lower right H12" W16"

Literature: Born in Pittsburgh, PA, George Macrum specialized in views of New York and its surroundings; he painted primarily urban genre, landscapes and harbors. He studied at the Art Students League under Frank DuMond and Birge Harrison. Macrum was both a painter and a teacher. He exhibited at: Whitney Museum of American Art, the Pennsylvania Academy 1908-18, 1928-31, 1936; Corcoran Gallery biennials, 1910-28 (4 times); Appalachian Expo, Knoxville, TN, 1911 (gold); SC, 1914 (prize); Panama Pacific Expo, San Francisco, 1915 (medal); AIC, 1915-28; Society of Independent Artists, 1918-19, 1928; and Salons of America, 1928, 1929. His paintings are in two art institutions: Pennsylvania Academy and the Canadian National Gallery, Toronto. He was a member of the Allied Artists of America, Philadelphia Art Club and the Woodstock Art Association.

Good restored condition. Left side has some inpainting visible only under black light examination, which is located mainly in the dock area.
