George Bickham (1684-1758 English). The Universal Penman (1733-41). Copperplate engraving. Published London. Done in beautiful script with each plate focused on a specific theme. It covers business formats, discourses on the arts and virtues. It was the most important teaching tool of the day and used as a basic text of the art of calligraphy.
