Notes

This view of Fish Street Hill, then the main road leading to London Bridge, shows one of Christopher Wren's finest achievements, the Monument. A fluted Doric column, it was built by order of an Act of Parliament to commemorate the Great Fire of London of 1666. The Monument is 202 feet high, the distance between the column and the house in Pudding Lane where the fire started. Beyond the Monument is St.Magnus church. It is likely that cattle on the street are being driven to Smithfield market nearby
