Description

General Walter Fane (1828-1885): an oil on canvas of a horse drawn carriage with driver in front of a London house being confronted by a coal man with his back to the viewer, with a plaque to the centre of the bottom of the frame reading 'The 12th August. Swell - What business have you to block up my door in this sort of way? Coalheaver - What business has a swell like you to be in town this time of year?' signed lower right W Fane and dated 1880, and signed verso to the frame, relined in a plaster gilt frame, 35 by 50cm.
