Description

General Walter Fane (1828-1885): a watercolour of the Russian cemetery, outside the North Wall of Pikin, label verso 'To the memory of Captain Brabazon RA, Lieutenant R. B. Anderson, Fane's horse, Private Phillips KDG, S. de Normon, Attache to the British Embassy, Boudby Esquire, and eight soldiers of Fane horse, who treacherously taken prisoner under a flag of truce, dies during their captivity from the treatment to which they were subjected by the Chinese government. See illustrated London News, 1861, page 67', 24 by 31cm.
