4° (246 x 200mm). Engraved title and 88 plates, ALL BEFORE LETTERS AND WITH CONTEMPORARY HAND-COLOURING, HEIGHTENED IN GOLD, manuscript captions and foliation. Letterpress title and plate-list from the 8vo edition loosely inserted, 11 pages, on blue paper (last 2 leaves detached). Contemporary green russia, pink leather on-lay on front cover lettered and bordered in gilt, red edges (slight rubbing at extremities). Provenance: E. Guidée (bookplate dated 1926) -- Alexandre Sementchenkoff (bookplate; sale Christie's, 22 October 1987, lot 534).

DE-LUXE, LARGE-PAPER COPY. Geissler produced this fine series of plates illustrating Russian military costume during an extended stay in St. Petersburg from 1790-98. Colas 1206; Zaionchkovskii 1675; Obol'ianinov 1070.
