Notes

Ged Quinn recalls the tradition of the Old Masters by sampling artistic styles from artists such as Richard Wilson, Claude Lorrain and Caspar David Friedrich. He then unbalances the familiarity of these scenes with the inclusion of imagery which makes abstract reference to contemporary culture.

Quinn attended the Ruskin School of Drawing, Oxford from 1982-85. He then went on to study at the Slade School of Fine Art, London from 1985-87 and at Die Kunstakademie, Dusseldorf from 1988-89. Quinn has exhibited extensively at galleries including the Saatchi Gallery where he was included in Newspeak: British Art Now, June - September 2010, the Wilkinson Gallery, London, the State Hermitage Museum, St Petersburg and the Walker Art Gallery, Liverpool.

From 2003-2004 Quinn was the second recipient of the Tate St Ives Artists' Residency Programme based at the historic Porthmeor Studios, previously occupied by Borlase Smart, Ben Nicholson and Patrick Heron.
