Condition Note: Not lined. The surface is in fine condition; there is fine pigment separation throughout the entire work; clean varnish. Under UV: extensive inpainting to the costumes espacially to the red coats at center, which are entirely repainted; further retouches at upper left and upper right in the paneling.

Notes

This work depicts the southern end of the Galerie des Glaces, just in front of the passage leading to the Salon de la Paix. The ceiling painting depicts Charles Lebrun's La Hollande accepte la paix et se détache de l'Allemagne et de l'Espangne, the last painting in his series of works that symbolize the achievements of Louis XV.
