Ink and color on silk. Japan, about 1800The crane, designed as tsuru, is the symbol for the longevity. Here, we are shown a tanchotsuru depicted standing in the foreground. Its head is attentively bent to watchanother crane that is hovering above. The scene is set under the red sun rising from the horizon in the morning mist. Some bamboo growing on rocks. The paintingmasterly rendered with few skillful clear strokes, the black plumage of the birds is a piece of virtuoso art. Signed to the lower left Echizen (no) Kami GANKU 越前守岸駒 (title), and red seals GANKU FUNZEN 岸駒賁然.
