Notes

Gabriel Weissmann is repesentative of a generation of artists preoccupied with experimenting with painting under the influence of psychedelic drugs.

Born in London in 1944, Weissmann came to painting at the age of fourteen and went on to study at the Chelsea Art School from 1963-1967, where in his graduation year he painted his acclaimed canvas, ''Brain Drain'', one of the best representative works of the psychedelic period.

In the Free Experimentation works of the following year, Weissman continues using spray-can lines, influenced by Bernhard Cohen''s Art Nouveau inspired spray paintings. They were the first insights into what would become known int he early 1980''s as Grafitti Art.
