Galerie Charpentier, n°84-85
Charles Hector, comte d'Estaing (château de
Ravel 1729 – guillotiné à Paris 1794) fut mis à
la tête de la première escadre envoyée, en 1778,
secourir les patriotes américains. Pendant cette
campagne l'amiral d'Estaing enleva, le 3 juillet
1779, aux anglais l'île de la Grenade défendue par
le gouverneur Mac Cartney. La prise de la Grenade
eut un grand retentissement. « Jamais conquête
n'a été plus célébrée » écrit Grimm. Des fêtes
eurent lieu dans tout le royaume. Des estampes de
l'événement d'après Demarne et Caresme furent
publiées, une pièce de théâtre fut jouée « Veni, vidi,
vici, ou la prise de la Grenade ». Saint Aubin qui était
alors déjà malade, mais toujours avide d'actualité,
fut pris par la tourmente grenadienne et réalisa
une série de dessins sur cette campagne sans avoir
le temps de les publier.
Le comte d'Estaing est promu amiral en janvier
1793, et guillotiné le 28 avril 1794. Il clot sa défense
lors de son procès par cette phrase célèbre qui
rappelle la prise de la Grenade aux anglais :
« Quand vous aurez fait tomber ma tête, envoyez la
aux Anglais, ils vous la paieront cher. »

The bordereau (bidding slip), indicating proof of payment, must be presented when property is collected. Storage costs are due at the current rate.

SMALL ITEMS purchased at auction and not collected after the sale will be transported to the PIASA offices and kept free of charge for a fortnight.
Thereafter the purchaser will be charged storage costs at the rate of € 3 + tax, per day and per lot.

INSURANCE
At the fall of the hammer the title of property shall be transferred to the purchaser, who assumes immediate responsibility for insurance. Uncollected property will be stored at the buyer's risk and expense.
PIASA declines liability for lots placed in storage.
