Dated 1918
Kakejiku, in ink and colour on paper, depicting a monkey seated and holding a banana in his right hand, distracted by a bee hovering to his left, two discarded banana skins lying at his feet, signed Tsuchinoe-uma banshun, Kyushu saku with seal; with tomobako signed by the artist Heihachiro with seal Heihachiro. 132cm x 41cm (52in x 16¼in). Born in Oita Prefecture, Heihachiro studied at Kyoto College of Fine Arts, where he later became a professor. He received Order of Cultural Merit in 1961.

The artist's work is in the collection of the National Museum of Modern Art, the Tokyo National Museum and National Museum of Modern Art, Kyoto.
