Signed, inscribed and dated: F. Brentel.... II Regnum XIII... 1641, and bears inscription on the board: Fridr. Brentel f./100. Gouache on vellum, laid down on board. 71 by 98 mm. This scene from the Book of Kings illustrates an event after the death and burial of Elisha, who was a prophet and follower of Elijah. While another burial was in progress a band of invaders was spied in the distance, causing panic amongst the assembled mourners, who threw the body that they were burying into the nearby sepulchre of Elisha.
