Description

Friedrich August von Linstow (1775-1848), seated on a wooden chair, wearing uniform of red coat, dark blue cuffs and standing collar with gold embroidery, white waistcoat and chemise, dark blue stock, holding an ink-stained letter in his right hand.
Inscribed on the reverse with the sitter's details, gilt-mounted rectangular papier-mâché frame.

Notes


The von Linstows were a noble family from Mecklenburg, Denmark. Friedrich was born in Kiel, educated at the University in Copenhagen and worked for the Danish administration in Sønderborg. In 1809, he was appointed a Lord-in-waiting. From 1819, he worked as an 'amtsmand' or country man in Lauenborg.
