Description

Frederick W. Rigley, artist and teacher, began his career as a teenager. Since then his life-long profession has been painting. Working in oil, watercolor, and acrylic, etc., he is best known for his landscapes and seascapes, which he paints on the East Coast, in the South, and in Brown County, Indiana, where he makes his home and maintained his studio. Mr. Rigley studied at the Art Students' League, New York, and the Ringling School of Art, Sarasota, where he majored in sculpture. He also studied with private instructors including Adrian Pillars and Enrique Elferez, Emile A. Gruppe, Hilton Leech, John F. Carlson, Floyd Hopper and George Bridgman. In addition to teaching landscape painting with the Indianapolis Art League for 25 years, Mr. Rigley held private classes in Brown County and gave workshops in the South and Midwest. He gave frequent painting demonstrations to art groups. He was commissioned by Outdoor Indiana, General Motors and other corporations for special paintings. In 1964, he was artist-in-residence at the University of Delaware where eight of his paintings are owned by the University. He has had many one-man shows in different parts of the United States. Besides private collections, his paintings are owned by Indiana National Bank; Indianapolis Public Schools; University of Delaware; National Bank, Easton, Ohio; Delco Remy and Guide Lamp, divisions of General Motors; and the Eastern Shore Art Association, Fairhope Alabama Permanent collection. Painted on location and signed by the artist.

Onsite art pickup will take place on August 30 and August 31, 2020 between the hours of 11am and 5pm at the Brown County Community Foundation Howard Hughes Conference Room located at located at 209 N. Van Buren Street, Nashville, IN 47448 Shipping vis UPS will be available for works that cannot be personally picked up. All shipping costs and associated fees are to be paid for by the winning bidder prior to shipment of auction winnings. Shipping costs depend on product type, size, delivery method, and time. A minimum charge of $15.00 for shipping, handling and insurance fees will be added to invoices for material that is shipped. We must ask all customers who use a P.O. Box for their mailing address to include a residential address when shipment of larger lots. The tracking number will be provided once the merchandise has shipped. These costs will be added to your invoice. SHIPPING COSTS ARE NOT REFUNDABLE.

Onsite art preview will be available by appointment on August 27, 2020 at the Brown County Public Library Conference Room B located at 205 Locust Ln, Nashville, IN 47448 between the hours of 11am and 6:30pm. Call 812-988-2818 to schedule an appointment and identify art to be viewed. Bidders who are not able to participate in the live preview understand and acknowledge that they may not be able to inspect an item as well as if they examined it in person. It is the Bidder's responsibility to determine condition, age, genuineness, value or any other determinative factor. The Rotary Club of Brown County shall endeavor to describe in detail each item and any pertinent information about it. The Rotary Club of Brown County will not be responsible for any errors or omissions in the description of the merchandise unless it is a material and intentional misrepresentation of the item itself. Bidder agrees that everything is sold as is and that they may not return any item they purchase. The Rotary Club of Brown County is providing Internet pre-auction and final bidding as a service to Bidder. Bidder acknowledges and understands that this service may or may not function correctly the day of the auction. Under no circumstances shall Bidder have any kind of claim against The Rotary Club of Brown County or anyone else if the Internet service fails to work correctly before or during the live auction. The Rotary Club of Brown County will not be responsible for any missed bids from any source.
