Frederick Charles Mulock (1866-1931) Portrait of the late Francis Edward James Esq. NEA, RWS, RBA (1849-1920), seated in a wheelchair in his studio Signed and dated 1910, extensively inscribed on various labels verso, oil on canvas, 102cm by 127.5cm Exhibited at the New English Art Club 1911, no. 1 Francis Edward James was a painter of landscapes and architectural subjects, the son of the Rev Henry James, Rector of Willingdon, Sussex. He exhibited at the principle London galleries from 1884, mainly the Royal Society of British Artists and the Royal Watercolour Society of which he was elected a full member in 1916.
