Mountain landscape. Signed and dated lower right "F.A. Butman 1868". Cataloger's Note:

We believe that the subject of the painting is
Mount Washington in New Hampshire's The mountain and peak bears a striking resemblance to Washington, although we have been unable to place the foreground.

In 1866 Butman returned to the East Coast after painting for nearly a decade in the Western Frontier to both critacal acclaim and commercial success. According the the 2007 exhibition, "Consumuing Views," produced by the New Hampshire Historical Society, Butman painted his .

Condition Report

Exceptional original condition. The painting and frame are housed in a Victorian era, velvet lined shadowbox. In addition the shadow box was coverered in glass until it was recently removed for shipping. The painting itself is not relined and shows no obvious restoration under UV light. The paint is stable in all areas and does not exhibit any significant craquleur or other age related issues. The original frame is in pristing condition with the exception of one small piece of missing molding and surface dirt to the lower right.
