Franz Luby, Austrian 1902-1989- ''Fischmarkt, Venedig''; pen and ink, 29.5x47cm, (may be subject to Droit de Suite) Note: Franz Luby was born in St Polten, Austria and his family moved to Vienna in his youth. After schooling at the Imperial Military School, from 1920-23 Luby studied at the Graphic Arts Research Institute, Vienna. From 1928 he began exhibiting at the Secession and Kunstlerhaus in Vienna. After war service Luby in 1949 founded the artist group New Hagerbund, of which he was president from 1954-62. Luby exhibited widely including at John Whibley Gallery, London in 1965 and Galerie Wolfgang Gurlitt in Munich in 1969. His art was included in the 2009/10 exhibition at MUSA Vienna on Austrian art in the 1950s. His work is held by the National Museum in Vienna, the Albertina and other public collections.
