NOTES Clemens Wenceslas, thirteenth child of Elector Frederick Augustus II of Saxony (King Augustus III of Poland, see lot 91). He became Elector and Archbishop of Trier, Prince Elector of Augsburg and Prince-Propst of Ellwangen. Due to the French Revolution, he was depossessed of his Trier Electorate and emigrated to Bavaria. There he was well received by his nephew King Maximilian I Joseph who granted him a pension and a life guard. Despite the French invasion, Clemens Wenceslas was a great admirer of Emperor Napoleon. In 1784, aged seventeen Noortwyck was appointed Cabinets-Miniaturmaler to Clemens Wenceslas.
