FRANZ ITTENBACH, GERMAN, 1813-1879 ST. CECILIA 40 by 15,5cm Signed and dated F. Ittenbach, Roma 1842 c.r. Oil on panel Condition Note: Very good condition, ready to hang, in a nice architectural frame. Provenance: Marie Regina Marienburg spezial Inventar 1906/07 Inv. Nr. 57 / 117 Franz Ittenbach ranks among the best Nazarine painters of the Dusseldorf School. After 1832 he studied under Theodor Hildebrandt and C.F. Sohn at the Academy of Dusseldorf and finished his education as a painter with a longer journey to Italy from 1839 until 1842. He was accompagnied by Wilhelm Schadow and Carl Muller and joined in Rome the circle of the Nazarine painters around Friedrich Overbeck. The present painting was executed in his last year in Rome. Ittenbachs contemporaries estimated his paintings for their expression of intimate and sincere religiosity.
