La scène, aux couleurs chaudes et intimistes, nous fait entrer dans l’atelier d’un sculpteur qui présente au centre de la composition son œuvre, une jeune femme nue à l’antique. Autour de lui, des couples d’élégants observent et discutent, comme dans l’intérieur d’un salon mondain. Au premier plan, dans une semi-obscurité, deux ouvriers travaillent à la taille d’une allégorie de fleuve. La scène, minutieusement détaillée, est caractéristique des œuvres du peintre autrichien Franz-Christoph Janneck, d’un genre délicat, destinées aux cabinets d’amateurs. Fils du peintre Martin Janneck, Franz-Christoph est l’élève de Matthias Vangus à Graz. Dans les années 1730, il réside à Vienne et exécute des portraits qui accusent la connaissance des modèles français. Spécialisé dans les petits tableaux de chevalet de facture extrêmement raffinée, il se plait à représenter des personnages élégamment vêtus dans des scènes de genre contemporaines, des scènes d’atelier ou de sujets mythologiques. Renouant avec la grande tradition des maîtres flamands du siècle précédent, ses œuvres reflètent également l’influence française, dans la lignée de Watteau, et furent très appréciées dans l’Autriche raffinée du XVIIIe siècle. A noter que C. Ludwig von Hagedorn (1712-1780) mentionne dans son recueil, Lettres sur les Arts publié en 1797, l’existence de deux pendants sur cuivre, l’atelier du peintre et l’atelier du sculpteur par Janneck.

Lots from outside the EEC: (indentified by an*). In addition to the commissions and taxes indicated above, an additional import VAT will be charged (7% of the hammer price, 20% for jewelry).
For any member of the EEC, non assembled stones are liable to VAT 20%.
The auctioneer is bound by the indications in the catalogue, modified only by eventual announcements made at the time of the sale noted into the legal records thereof. Prospective bidders should inspect the property before bidding to determine its condition, size, and wether or not it has been repaired, restored or repainted. Exhibitions prior to the sale at Marc-Arthur KOHN SARL or on the sale point permits buyers to establish the condition of the works offered for sale, and therefore no claims will be accepted after the fall of the hammer.
