Item Overview

Description

FRANK MORLEY FLETCHER
Floodgates.

Color woodcut on cream laid Japan paper, 1899. 207x255 mm; 8 1/4x10 inches, 3/4-inch margins. Signed in pencil, lower left, and numbered 30/31 in pencil, upper right. A very good impression of this scarce print, with strong colors.

We have found only one other impression at auction in the past 20 years.

Born in England, Fletcher (1866-1950) was instrumental in bringing the art of the color woodcut to America in the early 20th-century. He eventually settled in Santa Barbara, California.
