PROVENANCE:

Shortly after serving in the Civil War, Taylor moved to Philadelphia from upstate New York for its strong publishing industry and artistic community. He became a well-known special artist for prominent publications and in his later years completed a series of over 400 watercolors, washes and ink drawings thereby historically documenting the city of Philadelphia at the turn-of-the-century.
