Provenance

Possibly the undated self-portrait listed in the inventory of the artist's house drawn up on 8 November 1816 after his death (Paris, Archives Nationales, Minutier Central, XXIX, 811): Item trois portraits, savoir deux de Mr. Menageot par lui-même, dont un date de 1797, sur toile et sans bordures et un portrait de femme, lesdits portraits étant de famille tirés ici pour mémoire.
M. de Villeroy (according to an old label on the stretcher).
