Item Overview

Description

FRANCKS FRANÇOIS DECEUS (1966 - )
One.

Mixed media on wove paper, 2007. 660x560 mm; 26 1/4x22 inches. Signed and dated in acrylic, left margin.

This Haitian-born Brooklyn painter and printmaker is a young artist already well-known for his graphic and colorful figurative depictions of African Americans. This recent work on paper shows the move toward spirituality and abstraction in his work, perhaps influenced by the work of Norman Lewis. In addition to many gallery exhibitions, his works were recently included in museum exhibitions at the MoCADA, Brooklyn, the Brooklyn Museum, and the National Civil Rights Museum, Memphis, TN. His work is also found in the collections of the Schomburg Center, New York, and Xavier University, New Orleans.
