In 1913, the year his wife was interned in the psychiatric hospital of Santa Agueda de Mondragón, Iturrino retired to his friend Rafael Echevarría's estate La Concepción in Málaga. This was located in a tropical garden with plants and trees from all over the world, that would inspire a series of paintings in which he would try to capture explosions of colour.
