NOTE

The bust does not appear to be listed in the Chantrey Ledgers nor can a match be found in Graves' list of Royal Academy exhibits. A possible match might be Sir Sandford Graham (1788-1852), see the pencil drawing in the National Portrait Gallery, NPG 316a(58). The truncation of the present bust, relatively unusual without drapery, is closest to the bust of Mountstuart Elphinstone in plaster at the Ashmolean Museum.
