PROVENANCE

By descent from the sitter

NOTE

The sitter was the grandson of Clement Boehm, a director of the Bank of England, whose family was originally from Strasburg. His grandmother was Anne Dilke, whose grandfather was John Trafford, and Clement assumed the name of Trafford and inherited Dunton Hall (see lot 11). He married Jane, daughter of Edward Southwell of Wisbeach, who inherited her father's estates. Their son Sigismund lived at Wroxham Hall, Norfolk which he bought in 1801.
