FRANCIS (FRANK) THOMAS CARTER (1883-1934), DAIRY BRIDGE, ROKEBY PARK, GRETA BRIDGE, signed lower right, oil on panel, framed. 21cm by 21cm
Note: The son of local station master , he began a career in the business of station newsagents WH Smith. After abandoning this employment he was introduced to painting by accident and became increasingly interested in his new hobby. He first began exhibiting at the Bewick Club in Newcastle and by 1898 had sent his first work to the Royal Academy "Vale of Aln". He became a regular exhibitor at the R.A. as well as the Royal Scottish Academy, the Royal Hibernian Academy, the Royal Cambrian Academy and Suffolk Street, as well as the Royal Institute of Oil Painters.
