Notes

FROM A PRIVATE SWISS COLLECTION (LOT 2205)
VAT rate of 5% is payable on hammer price and at 17.5% on the buyer's premium.
The present pair of canvases can be compared with Migliori's Bacchus and Ariadne and The Rape of Europa, in the Gemaldegalerie, Dresden. The central musician in the group following the victorious David can be compared with the horn-playing girl in the canvas decorating the organ in the Church of San Moisé, Venice (see R. Palluchini, La Pittura nel Veneto Il Settecento, Milan, 1996, II, pp. 72-73, pl. 83, 84).

We are grateful to Professor Lino Moretti for confirming the attribution to Migliori on the basis of photographs.
