Notes

The present composition is based on a section of the larger painting of I Progenitori, now in a private collection (see Il Seicento Fiorentino (exhibition catalogue, Florence, 1986), pp.175-175). The signature on I Progenitori reads 'Il Cav[alie]r Corrado' and is dated 1629. However, given that Curradi only received the title of cavaliere in 1633, it may be that this inscription was added at a later date but that the date is original. It would, nevertheless, suggest a date of post 1633 for the present work. A further version of the complete composition, also signed, was offered at Babuino, Rome, 21 October, 2003, lot 26.
