Four Continental Portrait Medals, including a French bronze medal by Jean-Baptiste Maire (1787-1859), the first in a series honoring the citizens of Franche-Compte, 1836, here Gilbert Cousin (1506-1572), secretary to Erasmus, the obverse with a portrait of Cousin and identifying legend, the reverse with a lengthy biographical legend, dia. 56 mm; a French copper subscription medal by Jean-Jacques Barre (1793-1855) for the foundation of the Montyon and Franklin Society, 1833, the obverse with a dual portrait of Baron de Montyon (1733-1820) and Benjamin Franklin (1706-1790), the reverse with an oak wreath and subscription legend, dia. 41 mm; an Italian bronze medal by Nicolai Cerbara (ca. 1794-1856) honoring Christopher Columbus (1451-1506), the obverse with a bust of Columbus and identifying legend, the reverse with a ship in a laurel wreath and Latin legend, dia. 42 mm; and a French bronze uniface medal after Pesez (active late 17th century), with a portrait of Anne "Ninon" de Lenclos (1620-1705) and identifying legend, dia. 65 mm.
