Leonard Rickhard is regarded as one of the leading pictorial artists working within his native Norway. In 2000 he was nominated for the Carnegie Award, an art prize established in 1998 honouring contemporary Nordic artists and in 2001 the Astrup Fearnley Museum in Oslo staged a retrospective of Rickhard's work. Paintings such as Modellbilde, Neapelgult refract a physical landscape through a diagrammatic lens to create a model reality that is imbued with a subtle anxiety.
