Upper hinge cracked, front free endpaper with a few edge-tears, erased ownership inscription to inside cover; jacket spine panel browned and with old repair to verso, large chip to lower panel affecting header and first 2 lines of blurb, front flap fold separated, small chips at corners.

First edition, first state, very rare in jacket. The jacket design is by John Held Jr [1889-1958], probably the foremost illustrator of the 'Roaring Twenties.'
