Item Overview

Description

serial #1688, about 14 bore (.6985"), 28" barrels with bright bores that show some scattered light pitting. This shotgun shows lovely engraving on the locks and tangs. Each lock is engraved with the maker's name "THOMAS BLISSETT" and had beautifully executed relief floral scroll. The right locks shows a scene of two running dogs ahead of hammer and two game birds in open panel to rear of hammer. The left lock shows similar scenes and each hammer is engraved in the same relief scroll and each having a bird with outstretched wings and a near geometric border around the hammer screws. The triggerguard bow shows a walking dog and the buttplate tang shows several birds. The barrels retain about 50% original brown finish blending with a smooth gray patina and with strong pattern their entire lengths. The top rib is engraved "THOMAS BLISSETT GUN MAKER LIVERPOOL" and the breeches are equipped with platinum blow out plugs. The locks are an even gray patina being quite smooth and with engraving remaining clear. The checkered straight grip stock rates excellent having been professionally and lightly refinished with nice strong checkering. The triggerguard and buttplate retain about 80% of an old beautifully restored blue finish with the triggerguard tangs being mostly a gray brown patina and with bright blue on the bow. The original brass tipped ebony ramrod is present beneath the barrel. The gun comes in its original brass bound oak case with blue baize interior and with original maker label on inside of lid. The case rates excellent with five covered compartments which house a nipple wrench, cleaning implements, wad cutter, spare nipples and a small pewter oiler. Just a lovely cased British percussion double gun. (17601-1) {ANTIQUE}
