In 1704 he went to Rome, where he frequented the studio of Carlo Fontana. His first important work dates back to 1708, when he signed the Antimori chapel in San Gerolamo della Carità in Rome, also distinguishing himself as a set designer. But it was from 1714 that his activity intensified, in Messina and then in Piedmont, as the first architect of King Vittorio Amedeo II of Savoy. From 1714 his inspiration reshaped the Venaria Reale plant and in 1715 gave shape to the Basilica of Superga. In those years he created the facade of the church of Santa Cristina. He participates in the third enlargement of the city towards the West for which he conceives the Palazzo Martini in Cigala; the Military Quarters and the Carmine church. He also created the staircase and the facade of Palazzo Madama and the Palazzina di Caccia di Stupinigi. In 1735 he was called to Spain by King Philip V, for whom he designed the Royal Palace, the Grandja di San Idelfonso and the Palace of Aranjuez. He died in Madrid in 1736. The work in question is rich in detailed drawings, alternating with architectural elevations; the structures are executed with extreme refinement, and in the handwriting of the artist (and, perhaps, of one of his collaborators) his ideas for realization or modification are recognizable. Note the notes for the Music Room, the Stables, and the sketch for the Garden of Malta
