The Bacchante were the priestesses of the cult of Bacchus/Dionysus. In Greek mythology, the Bacchante represent wild, mystical and uncontrolled rapture culminating in the practice of cruel rites. In the present works, we see them in their typical swirling drapery- the female figure expressing physical abandonment as she beats her tambourine...
